Tip is made from syringe needles, and the writing pen is made from wood, which is surrounded by cooper tube to protect the handle from fire. The wide diameter on the tip - provides more area to hold the wax and prevents unexpected drips. The dimensions of the tip are 3/4" length x 5/16" (at the widest diameter).
